A Spectacular Book Week!
It's been an 'out of this world' Mayfield Week! An alien spaceship crashed into the playground during the high winds on Monday evening. On Tuesday morning as everyone arrived the spaceship was still smoking and community Police were on the scene to make sure we were all safe!
Pupils from every class investigated the crash site and found lots of alien objects which sparked off lots of discussions about what they were and how they got there.
On the same day the wonderful poet James Carter arrived and began a jam-packed two days of alien and space related creativity working across the whole school to entertain and inspire us. Thank you James - we loved having you here!
On Thursday Johnny Rocket creator John Chapman arrived and talked to us about his experiences as a performer in Star Wars and about how he created Johnny Rocket. Thank you John - it was a blast!
The work the children have put into their creative writing and drawing has been universally (ahem) fantastic and we have certainly seen a huge amount of enthusiasm and excitement around reading, writing and books.
Today we all dressed up as characters from space. Have a look below at Mrs Ewart's wonderful photographs to get a flavour of our fun week. Can you spot Mrs Ewart in any of the pictures? She doesn't look quite her usual self...
STOP PRESS: The Newspaper team have been working on the Book Week Special Edition. We've had junior reporters and a photographer from years 3 and 4 contributing as well as our usual team. The Year 5 and 6 press gang are on a trip today so look out early next week for the new edition!
