Anne Fine was born and educated in the Midlands, and now lives in County Durham. She has written numerous highly acclaimed and prize-winning books for both children and adults.
Anne studied Politics and History at University, and the interest in political issues shows up in many of her books. After university Anne taught in a girls' secondary school for a year and then moved with her husband to Oxford, where she worked as an Information Officer for Oxfam. Though she was only in this job for two years, it changed her attitudes to money, to 'things', and to what is truly important in life, for ever.
In 1971 her first daughter was born. Unable to get to the library in a snowstorm to change her library books, in desperation she sat down and started to write a novel. Clearly this was the right job for Anne, as she has never stopped writing for more than a few weeks since.
